Connect Slack
Connect your Slack workspace so Flowstate can message people directly when something needs them, such as a week of effort to submit or a CapEx or R&D review. Flowstate only sends direct messages. It doesn’t read your channels.
You need access to integrations. Ask your Flowstate admin.
Before you start
- In Slack: permission to add apps to your workspace.
- Matching emails: Flowstate finds each person in Slack by email address, so people need the same address in Slack and Flowstate.
Connect Slack
-
Go to Settings → Integrations, select Browse catalog and open Slack.
-
Select Connect. Slack opens.
-
Choose your workspace and approve. You come back to the Slack Integration page.
-
Under Notification Features, turn on the areas you want:
Switch What it sends Unlinked project notifications Reminders to link work from your project tool to a Flowstate project Effort submission notifications Draft weeks for team leaders to approve or edit in Slack, and a message when a week needs submitting Cost capitalisation flows Outstanding rationales to project owners, and new submissions to approvers R&D flows Pending R&D reviews to approvers, and projects recommended for an R&D claim -
Check each notification category’s Slack switch under Settings → Organisation → Notifications. A message only goes out when both switches are on. See Choose how people are notified.
To come back to this page later, select Configure on the Slack row of Settings → Integrations.
Check it’s working
- Select Send test beside a switch that’s on.
- You’ll see “Test message sent to your Slack DM”, and the message arrives in your own Slack.
Workspace Connection shows Connected with your workspace name.
Disconnect
Select Disconnect on the Slack Integration page. Everyone stops getting Slack messages from Flowstate.
If something’s not right
Someone doesn’t get messages. Check their Slack email matches their Flowstate email, and that both the area’s switch and the category’s Slack switch are on.
The test message doesn’t arrive. Your own Slack email doesn’t match your Flowstate email.
I can’t select Send test. That area’s switch is off. Turn it on first.
Messages about unlinked projects go to a line manager. The person responsible in your project tool isn’t in Flowstate, so their line manager is told instead.
For your technical team
Flowstate asks Slack for these permissions:
| Slack permission | Used to |
|---|---|
chat:write | Send messages |
users:read | Look up people in your workspace |
users:read.email | Match Slack accounts to Flowstate accounts by email |
im:write | Open direct messages |
