Connect Microsoft 365 Copilot
Connect Microsoft 365 Copilot to see who holds a licence, who uses it, and in which Microsoft 365 apps.
You need access to connect AI providers. Ask your Flowstate admin.
Before you start
- An administrator in Microsoft Entra, to register an app and grant it admin consent.
- Your organisation on Microsoft’s global cloud. Microsoft doesn’t offer these reports in its government or China clouds.
Connect Microsoft 365 Copilot
- In Microsoft Entra, go to App registrations and create an app.
- Under API permissions, add the Microsoft Graph application permission
Reports.Read.All, then grant admin consent. - Under Certificates & secrets, add a client secret and copy its value straight away. It’s only shown once.
- In Flowstate, go to Settings → Integrations, select Browse catalog and open Microsoft 365 Copilot.
- Under How to connect, select Use this route.
- Enter your tenant ID in Directory (tenant) ID, the app’s ID in Application (client) ID and the secret in Client secret.
- Select Verify and connect.
Check it’s working
The connection is listed under Connected keys with the status Working.
What Flowstate brings in
- One line for each person with a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence, as of the day Microsoft last refreshed its report.
- When each person last used Copilot overall, and in Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Loop and Copilot Chat.
- Everyone here is counted as a person. A Microsoft 365 Copilot licence belongs to someone, and there’s no way for an automated system to use it.
- No spend. Microsoft doesn’t report what Copilot costs.
- Flowstate syncs every hour. Microsoft’s report only covers people with a licence, so Copilot Chat used without one isn’t included.
If something’s not right
People appear as codes instead of names. Microsoft hides names in its usage reports by default. A Microsoft 365 global administrator can show them: in the Microsoft 365 admin centre, go to Settings → Org Settings → Services → Reports and clear Conceal user, group, and site names in all reports. Until then Flowstate can’t match these people to your employees.
The connection shows Key rejected. The client secret expired or was deleted, or the app lost its permission. Create a new secret and select Replace key on the connection.
Verify and connect fails. Check that the app has the Reports.Read.All application permission, not a delegated one, and that admin consent was granted.
Someone who uses Copilot is missing. They don’t hold a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. Microsoft only reports licensed users.
