Founder's Associate - Commercial

Create capacity for our founder, turn customer demand into results, support ongoing rounds and help shape the foundations of a generational company.

Central London, in person. You'll need UK work authorisation.

The role

Flowstate helps companies plan and manage people and AI as one workforce. We're an early-stage team backed by a16z Scout Fund, Ventures Together, Haatch and Openseed. We have signed enterprise and mid-sized customers, key partnerships and significant further demand from both new and existing logos.

Our challenge is keeping pace with that demand while translating the customer traction into sharper product-market fit that sets us for true scale. Our founder and technical team have more opportunities than they can currently turn into results. Alongside that, we're preparing for our next raise and building our presence in the US.

We're looking for an exceptional Founder's Associate to help unlock that next stage.

If you've already worked closely with a startup founder, you'll know how valuable genuine customer demand is - and how much work sits between that demand and a company that scales. This is an opportunity to make a substantial contribution at a critical point, with meaningful ownership in what we build.

Fair warning: this job will be hard. You'll probably love it.

Your job is to create capacity for our founder, turn important priorities into completed work, support ongoing rounds, and help shape the foundations of a generational company.

You'll take ownership of projects across customers, partnerships, fundraising and commercial development. You'll help prepare the decisions and conversations that need the founder, and independently deliver much of the work around them, while also spotting new opportunities and being creative about how a step up in momentum can be achieved.

The role has a strong commercial focus: helping us convert demand, deliver value and learn what we can repeat and turn into a flywheel that drives significant growth.

It also requires excellent organisation, judgement and follow-through.

You'll need enough experience to be useful quickly. We'll help you learn Flowstate, our customers and our product; you should already know what it takes to get it done: from getting to grips with the market and opportunity, prioritising and sequencing work, to producing strong work and keeping everything moving through to completion.

What you'll own

We'll agree a small number of priorities at a time. Your responsibilities will include:

Turning customer demand into results

  • Prepare customer meetings: understand the company, stakeholders, use case and decisions needed
  • Turn conversations into clear actions, with owners, deadlines and follow-through
  • Produce strong first drafts of proposals, presentations, business cases and customer materials
  • Coordinate commercial and customer onboarding work with the founder and technical team, surfacing dependencies before they become delays
  • Help define and track what success means for a pilot, including the evidence needed to convert it into a longer-term relationship

Helping us find and repeat what works

  • Research patterns across the customer problems we have already found, including triggers, relevant markets and outsized opportunities
  • Capture patterns across opportunities: who buys, what hurts, what they want, why they act now and what creates value
  • Turn customer evidence into useful case studies, messaging and reusable materials
  • Run focused commercial experiments with a clear objective and a practical way to assess the results

Making partnerships and opportunities happen

  • Research and reach the people who can help us move forward
  • Progress partner conversations, introductions and agreed actions
  • Prepare the founder for events and speaking opportunities, including audience research, relevant contacts and follow-up
  • Take ownership of selected content, events or campaigns where they support an agreed commercial goal

Some days you'll be researching pricing or preparing a senior customer conversation. Others you'll be chasing missing information, checking a deck or making sure a commitment is delivered tomorrow. Sometimes you'll be pitching or wording to deliver a great idea, opportunity or approach you have creatively brought to the mix.

The quality of that detail determines whether the bigger things happen.

Who you are

You've probably spent around 3-6 years in startups, including a substantial period as a Founder's Associate or in a closely comparable role.

This may be your second Founder's Associate position. You've learned what the job actually involves, have evidence that you're good at it, and are looking for a company where your contribution could change both its trajectory and your own.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Independent execution: you've taken loosely defined projects through to completion with limited supervision
  • Commercial judgement: you understand customers, buying decisions and the difference between interesting activity and work that creates value
  • Excellent written work: you can turn rough notes into a clear, accurate document that needs light editing
  • Organisation and attention to detail: you manage competing commitments, keep track of dependencies and close loops
  • Resourcefulness: when the obvious route fails, you find another way to reach the person, obtain the information or solve the problem
  • Credibility and judgement: you can work with senior customers, ask useful questions and recognise when to listen or involve someone else
  • Learning speed: you get to grips with unfamiliar products and problems quickly
  • Ownership: you raise problems early, bring possible solutions and follow through without repeated chasing

You don't need to have founded a company. We care about what you have personally delivered, how you work and whether you genuinely want this job. You should enjoy having several workstreams while being disciplined about which ones matter most.

Where this can lead

We're offering substantial responsibility now and room to earn more as the business develops.

You might build deeper ownership in customer success, partnerships, growth or another area where your strengths and the company's needs meet. We'll keep that conversation open as we learn what you're especially good at.

The immediate opportunity is to become excellent at this role and make yourself central to our progress.

Our founder intends to build in New York. We'll discuss openly how the role, location and working relationship could develop as that happens. Joining in London should come with a shared understanding of that direction.

What success looks like

In your first three months

  • You independently own several agreed projects and recurring responsibilities
  • The founder spends less time preparing, coordinating and chasing work
  • Customer meetings are well prepared, and important actions reliably happen afterwards
  • Proposals, investor updates and other materials are accurate and delivered on agreed timelines
  • You understand enough about our product and customers to make useful recommendations

Within six months

  • Your work has helped opportunities convert and customers reach agreed milestones
  • We have stronger evidence about our core buyer, recurring pain and repeatable offer
  • Useful customer learning becomes better materials and processes that the team actually uses
  • Partnerships and fundraising work progress consistently alongside customer delivery
  • The founder can delegate an outcome to you with confidence that you'll organise the work, exercise judgement and deliver it

The working reality

This is an intense early-stage role. Priorities can change, deadlines can be tight, and occasional evening work or travel may be needed. We'll be clear about expectations and plan around them.

You'll work closely with the founder and team from our central London office, with flexibility when life requires. You'll need UK work authorisation.

You'll enjoy this if taking responsibility and making things happen gives you energy. You should be comfortable doing the detailed work yourself and interested in building processes that make it easier next time.

Benefits

  • Salary reflecting your experience and contribution, an outcome-based cash bonus and meaningful early-stage equity, with scope to earn more equity for substantial value creation
  • Employer pension contribution
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Private health insurance
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free breakfast and subsidised gym membership
  • AI tools and a MacBook
  • Direct exposure to enterprise customers, investors, partners and emerging AI use cases
  • Close involvement in the decisions and execution that shape an early-stage company
  • Room to build a significant career as your contribution and the business grow

About Flowstate

Flowstate is the Workforce Engineering platform. We help organizations measure, optimize and recover the full value of their workforce, human and AI. Every cost attributed to teams, projects and outcomes in real time. Every decision faster.

We're backed by a16z Scout Fund, Ventures Together, Haatch and Openseed. We're a small team of ex-founders who believe the way companies plan and measure the cost of work is about to change completely. We're building the system that makes it happen.

We don't do sprints or planning cycles. We figure out what needs to happen, plan it, and execute in days not months. No product managers. No layers. Everyone talks to customers. Everyone owns outcomes.

We work from our central London office. Life happens and we're flexible when it does, but we believe the best thinking and collaboration come from sharing the same walls.
