Commercial · New York
Founding GTM
Work directly with our founder to turn enterprise demand into a disciplined, repeatable commercial engine, and open our New York office while you do it.
You'll need to be based in the New York area with the right to work in the US, and able to spend your first month with us in London. We work together in person, with flexibility when life requires.
The role
We're already live with major enterprise customers, with significant additional demand in the pipeline. We're now looking for a high-potential Commercial Associate to work directly with our founder and help turn that demand into a disciplined, repeatable commercial engine.
Fair warning: this job will be hard. You'll probably love it.
Your job is to increase our commercial throughput.
Our founder will continue to lead our most important customer conversations, shape the proposition and close strategic enterprise opportunities. You'll own much of what makes that work possible: the research, preparation, pipeline, materials, execution and follow-through surrounding it.
This isn't initially a sales role, but it is unambiguously commercial. Your work should directly or indirectly help Flowstate drive revenue.
You'll help us identify the right companies and buyers, run focused go-to-market experiments, keep opportunities moving and turn what we learn into stronger proposals, collateral, events and content.
You'll start in London. Your first month is spent with the founding team in our central London office, learning the product, sitting in on customer calls and picking up the context that's hard to get remotely. We'll cover flights and accommodation. After that you're back in New York, helping us open the office and building the US motion from nothing.
What you'll do
Initially, you will:
- Research target markets, companies, buyers and use cases
- Build account maps, prospect lists and preparation for targeted outbound experiments
- Maintain excellent pipeline discipline, ensuring every live opportunity has a clear next step, owner and date
- Prepare the founder for customer meetings and ensure actions happen afterwards
- Produce first drafts of proposals, decks, landing pages, competitor comparisons and business cases
- Turn customer conversations into reusable case studies, content and commercial collateral
- Help organize targeted roundtables, events and other ways of reaching senior buyers
- Support strategic partnerships and turn introductions into properly managed opportunities
- Learn the product deeply and join selected customer conversations
- Gradually take ownership of qualification calls, demonstrations and selected opportunities once the commercial foundations are working reliably
Some weeks will require sharp commercial judgement. Others will involve cleaning a target list, chasing a signature or turning rough notes into an excellent customer deck by tomorrow. Both matter.
Where this can lead
The immediate job is to build and operate the commercial machinery around founder-led sales.
As you learn the customers, product and market, you'll take increasing ownership of customer conversations and revenue.
Depending on your strengths and how the company develops, that could lead towards:
- Becoming an Account Executive and owning a defined group of opportunities from qualification through close; or
- Building and leading our SDR/growth motion as we scale pipeline generation.
We're not promising a predetermined title. We are offering the opportunity to build deep commercial capability inside an early-stage enterprise software company and earn progressively greater revenue ownership, client exposure and the potential to lead and build.
Who you are
You probably have 2-5 years' experience working in or around sales and growth within a B2B SaaS or technology startup. You might currently be one of these:
- An SDR or BDR ready for substantially greater responsibility
- A junior AE who wants to work closer to the beginning of the commercial journey
- A commercially focused Founder's Associate
- Working in sales enablement, revenue operations or B2B growth
- In another early-stage commercial role covering several parts of the sales process
Whatever your current title, you should be able to demonstrate that:
- You understand how B2B sales opportunities are created and progressed
- You are commercially ambitious and want your career to develop towards revenue ownership
- You can turn an unclear conversation into structured actions and strong commercial materials
- You write clearly, research intelligently and produce high-quality work quickly
- You are comfortable communicating with senior customers without pretending to know what you don't
- You take commitments seriously and follow through without needing to be chased
- You are curious about technology, economics and how AI is changing work
- You find ways to reach people and create opportunities when the first approach fails
- You are happy doing detailed execution because you understand that this is how commercial engines are built
It's less about your current title: we care much more about what you have personally made happen.
Why this won't suit you
This probably isn't right for you if:
- You see commercial work as a temporary route into strategy, product or a Chief of Staff role
- You prefer discussing ideas to executing them
- You want to inherit a mature playbook rather than help build one
- You think research, outreach, CRM discipline or chasing follow-up is beneath you
- You need extensive support or several rounds of approval before acting
- You want a narrow, predictable job in which every week looks the same
- You enjoy creating activity but dislike being accountable for commercial outcomes
What success looks like
Within 90 days:
- No important opportunity should stall because the founder lacks time to prepare, produce materials or follow up
- Every qualified opportunity should have a clear next action, owner and date
- Proposals and requested commercial materials should normally be produced within 24-48 hours
- We should have a strong, reusable library of decks, case studies, buyer materials and competitive intelligence
- Our target-account and market experiments should run consistently and produce clear learning
- Customers should know and trust you
- We should have opportunities, relationships and revenue that your work helped create
- You should be ready to lead parts of qualification, demonstrations and selected customer opportunities yourself
Benefits
- Salary reflecting your contribution, an outcome-based cash bonus and meaningful early-stage equity, with scope to earn more equity for substantial value creation
- 401(k) with employer match
- 25 days PTO + federal holidays
- Medical, dental and vision, premiums covered
- Pre-tax commuter benefits
- AI tools and a MacBook
- Close exposure to major enterprise customers, emerging AI use cases and the realities of building a category-defining company
- A clear route towards meaningful commercial and revenue ownership

We're backed by a16z Scout Fund, Ventures Together, Haatch and Openseed. We're a small team of ex-founders who believe the way companies plan and measure the cost of work is about to change completely. We're building the system that makes it happen.
We don't do sprints or planning cycles. We figure out what needs to happen, plan it, and execute in days not months. No product managers. No layers. Everyone talks to customers. Everyone owns outcomes.
We work from our central London office, and we're opening in New York. Life happens and we're flexible when it does, but we believe the best thinking and collaboration come from sharing the same walls.
